I remember just a few months ago when we were experiencing conditions like the one below. I was begging for the Winter to end. No more snow, no more freezing temperatures. I promised that if Summer would just come I wouldn't complain one time. Bring on the HEAT..........Famous last words.
When I looked back through my runs in the May - June time frame I was doing my long runs a minute to a minute and half faster. I was averaging about an 11:30-11:45 minute mile. Now I am averaging anywhere from 12:30-13:30...which is slow for even me. What the heck? It sucks!
7 miles tomorrow in this heat; and then a 50 mile bike ride on Sunday. It's supposed to be the hottest day of the week. Yea! Something to look forward to.

On another note. The hubs (Jim at 50after40) will complete his 12th marathon on Sunday!! Good luck baby!! You will ROCK it as usual!
You can keep that humidity!!!! We've had some warm weather and lots and lots of rain but thankfully we don't really have any humidity...come to Colorado the weather is fine :)
ReplyDeleteI have to say I do not envy you when there is 3 feet of snow outside your door but if it makes you feel any better about the heat it is around 118 here in Phoenix. The treadmill and gym are my friends. Heat definitely slows you down so don't take it too personally. Keep at it. Good luck to Jim.
ReplyDeleteAh, yes...just when I'm able to start running again it's going to get RIDICULOUS hot. The humidity really is the worst. *sigh* oh well...I'll just be grateful to be out there. And, funny enough, I want to go to Hot Yoga on Sunday!
ReplyDeleteah the freaking heat
ReplyDeleteI just posted about this also
it is hard, here it is in the 100s.
not as humid of course but so hot.
I struggle big time
tomorrow 8 miles for me
I have to be out by 6..before that I dont like it when I am alone..not the safest.
you are not alone in the war agains the heat!
do you guys get RW magazine? they have a good article on running in the heat in the new issue.
Your post has made me really appreciate the cold snap we're having. Sure it's harder to get out of bed but it's sooo much easier to run when it's cool.
ReplyDeleteI can't stand the heat. I complain much less about freezing temps than I do about extreme heat. And extreme starts around 80 degrees in my book. Hope your workouts aren't too painful in the heat.
ReplyDeleteHate the heat. Also hate the bone chilling cold. What are we to do? (I would rather run in the cold than the heat though!)
ReplyDeleteor come to Montana we don't do much humidity either, I hate hot weather though, I am of the opinion anything over 75 is getting too hot!
ReplyDeleteIts pretty cold in Australia at the moment .... I'm jealous of your heat! (the humidity is all yours though!)
ReplyDeleteLet's see, I'm getting ready to head out for my group bike ride - it's 6:30am, 81 degrees, and 65% humidity. Yep, I feel your pain.
ReplyDeleteFYI, my run pace has slowed about 45sec per mile. Happens to all of us. Keep plugging away!
It's the same here. HOT HOT HOT. I normally prefer when it's cold out to run, the only thing I hate is when my fingers go numb but there are lots of days when I wanna just have it to be between 55 and 65 and pure sun.
ReplyDeleteI'm suppose to go running right now and the fog is really thick out, I'm gonna have to hurry up because when it's gone, I'm toast.
This heat is so gross! Some genius scheduled a 4 mile race tonight at 6 PM when it will be 87 degrees. And some other genius (me) signed up for it. No bueno.
ReplyDeleteJust do the best you can in the heat, Michael. I imagine you'll be stronger for it. Right? Right! :-)
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!
Ahh! We have had temps up to 112 lately, but no humidity. I can't imagine how rough that is. Good job for stickin with it!
ReplyDeleteGood luck on your run and ride this weekend, and most def GOOD LUCK to Jim!
The humidity was killin' me in Illinois.. now I'm living in Texas (as of last night) and it's dry and hot. My mouth was parched this morning during a three-mile run. Not to mentioned that I'm 4,000 ft above sea level as opposed to 700... this shall be interesting.
ReplyDeleteKudos to you for getting out there and doing what needs to be done! You are an inspiration!
It has been hot and humid here too. I would really like some crisp fresh mornings for my running. I am trying not to complain, since this winter about done me in. I'm not a treadmill person. I find I have to take more breaks when I am running a longer distance. It takes everything out of me. Doesnt that mean the more we sweat maybe the weight that is coming off too. I can only hope. Take care Michael. Good Luck to Jim this sunday. I'm sure he is going to do great.
ReplyDeletethat just seems cruel that ya'll have to endure two weather extremes. at least here in NC we have mild(ish) winters...but HELLISH summers. i HATE summer. im a full m/m slower in the summer, it SUCKS!
ReplyDeleteJust move to San Diego already. I'm not sure what you guys do for a living, but many companies are embracing a virtual workforce. Can you imagine when your posts will be complaining about how perfect the weather is?
ReplyDeleteI totally agree about heat! Would much rather run in cooler weather. I just keep hoping that it will make me a better runner when the cool weather does get here.
ReplyDeleteI hear you with the slower times in the heat...I was rockin' some halfway decent times (10:30 miles) April through June but now an old lady in a scooter can lap me! I'm hanging in though because I remember winter & it sucked. Hang in there too Michael...keep thinking of awesome. autumn runs :)
ReplyDeleteI hate the heat, my perfect training weather is 65-72
ReplyDeleteI prefer winter marathon training! I can't handle heat. We have a heat advisory here today with the humidity making it feel 102. Ugh. No outdoor activity today for this asthmatic marathoner!
ReplyDeleteKeep this in mind about your times. In the summer with the higher temps and humidity you are running about 10 bpm faster on your heart rate.
ReplyDeleteYou are pushing your body to work more than it would in more ideal conditions. This will all pay off when the temps fall in Sept/Oct and you are competing in fall events. You will see that you will probably be faster than your May-June times.
Keep up the good work.
