Multiple Monday Mutterings

Random thoughts and pics.
Is it possible to be any cuter?

Yes, yes it is possible.

Yesterday was our first Royals game of the Season!  The weather was awesome.  It reached 91 degrees - it was pretty warm, but also windy!

The "K"

Me & Jim again
The game went 13 innings.  The Royals won.  We left early.....13 innings = way too much baseball for me :)

After the game we came home.  Later that night we got quite the hail storm.  Large hail mixed with 25-30 mph is scary.  We were pretty sure the hail was going to break a window.  Luckily it did not.  My next door neighbor posted this pic of the hail on his FB page today.

That's some pretty big hail!!
Question of the Day:  If you are a triathlete - do you also run distance races - i.e. half marathons and marathons?  If so how many days a week do you run?  I'm trying to gage how many days I should run when I start training for my marathon, if I'm still cross training.  Thanks!!  Happy Monday!

  1. "too much baseball for me? You CAN'T have too much baseball!

    QOTD: It matters. :)

Most triathletes can't run more than three times per week because they are limited by their ability to recover. This is the main difference between elites and the rest of the world. The other thing to note is that there is a high transferrance between cycling and running and cycling is usually less impactful on your body. Once you get closer to the "event" in question, specificity needs to be observed (training similar to the race conditions). Sorry for the ramble - email me if you want more clarity.

  4. Your dog IS cute!!
Yay for baseball, but I agree with you, 13 innings is A LOT of baseball!

I am a triathlete and run distance races as well. Once I get into my tri training, it is hard to run more than 4 days a week b/c I am usually doing 3 bikes/runs/swims per week. So, to add more runs is just too much for me. But, everyone is different, so you'll probably just have to sit down and figure out how much training time you have or want to commit to per week, then go from there!
    I hope that helps!

  6. Your dog is so stinkin' cute!
We had golf ball size hail and 30-40mph winds about 2 weeks ago. It did some pretty good damage around here. Glad it didn't get your windows!

    Those hail balls are ridiculous!

  8. I have the same question about marathon and tri training. I might try doing fall marathons and just spring/early summe tris so I'm not training for both at the same time. Not sure if that's logical though?????

  9. Your dog is SO CUTE!

When I'm training properly, I aim for 3-4 runs/week if I want to maintain any sense of distance. If I want to keep to 10km's, I can get away with 2-3.

  10. Fantastic dog pics!
    Hilarious, outrageous hail specimens!
It is killing me knowing I will not be in Boston this year ( what was i thinking not signing up?) Soak it up and enjoy every second!

  11. Your dog is ADORABLE!!

My boyfriend and I call extra innings "free innings" because you only paid for the first 9. I'm aware that we are HUGE dorks but we both get excited when we talk about it. Congrats on y'all winning!!

That hail is nuts. Glad you're okay!

  13. Looks like the weather was beautiful for the game!

Last year I did a few triathlons while half marathon training and what I did was stick to the schedule of running 4 days a week. I prepared for the race just as I would if it was the only thing I was doing. Not sure if that would work for everyone though. I'm not great on the bike so that kinda was the one thing I didn't pay as much attention to as I should have.

  14. Such a cute dog!! LOVE the picture.

13 innings is by far, too many.

I trained for a marathon and a HIM at the same time. I ran 3-4 days a week. I actually used the FIRST method of run training which incorporates cross training, but I upped the swim/bike portions accordingly. I think my HIM suffered from my marathon training though.

  15. Cute doggie

Glad you had fun at the game

I do not do running races during the tri season. Takes too long to recover from. If you are discipline enough to say, I am going to x pace or x zone and not get caught up in the hype of the race, then it would be fine.

  16. Sounds like you guys had a good time at the ballpark. 91 degrees?! Hail?!

  17. Sitting outside at a ball game in warm temps? Doesn't get much better!

I always did my marathons at the end of tri season so that I didn't have to worry so much about the other sports. But if I were you, I'd keep a long ride of about 2 hrs. in there, along with about 2 other shorter rides, just to keep the fitness up. Swimming, you can get away with two 2,000ish workouts/week to maintain.

  18. that is crazy hail!! i need to be better about going to baseball games this year. our local team is minor league but still, fun times. i think your storm eventually blew this way (to SC). i was up all night hearing the insane wind blow (up to 41mph!) and then the thunder/lightning/downpour. crazy. glad you weathered the storm!
