It's a very slow process - two steps forward, one step back - but I'm inching in the right direction. - Rob Reiner

Just a little bit about me
OK....so this blog is a work in progress. But I figured I have to start somewhere, so here goes.
First, I have to say thank you to my husband Jim at 50 After 40 for 2 things:
1. The absolutely awesome design of this blog!! It looks great right?
2. For inspiring me daily! If it weren't for Jim, I probably never would have taken that first step toward racing.
Now a little bit about me (I'll put more info in the "About Me" section later):
Last year I signed up for my first triathlon. It was an all women's sprint distance triathlon with about 800 participants - of which about 400 were first timers. It was a great first experience. I enjoyed it so much I ended up doing 3 sprint distance triathlons last year. Not too bad for my "rookie" year. I experienced so many things last year - my first bike ride in a hail storm, my first open water swim, my first run across the finish line - and I wished I had journaled about them, but I didn't. So I decided to start this blog...more for me than anyone else. I want to remember my experiences and the journey I will take again this year as I train and complete my first Olympic Distance Triathlon.......and possibly sign up for my first marathon. What new experiences do I have in store?
I need to say this upfront.........I AM SLOW!!!! And when I say slow, I mean SLOW!!! I currently run about a 12:30 minute mile. My PR is an 11:15 minute mile for a 5K for crying outloud......so I am slow. So maybe you think I am a strong swimmer or biker. Nope, not strong in those sports either. Before last year I hadn't been on a bike for 10 years, and I had never swam (except as a kid for fun). People ask me all the time, so what is your "strong" sport. I always have to just laugh and say I don't have one. So, if you are a super athlete this blog is probably not for you. This is for those of us who may not be great, but at least we are out there Slowly Tri-ing!!

ReplyDeleteBy the way on my blog side bar I have this quote
Triathlon- Why suck at one sport when you can suck at three. T-shirt wisdom
But I love it any way!
I also found your blog from your hubby. Welcome to the sport and to blog land! I can't wait to read all about your adventures.
ReplyDeletewelcome to the blogosphere. look forward to following your journey! im training for my first tri this year (YIKES!!), so i love reading newbie blogs help me figure it all out.
ReplyDeleteComing through your husband's blog! Love the fact that you say you are not strong but are going after the triathlon! It scares me to death!
ReplyDeleteGlad I have another blog to follow.
ReplyDeleteI am not a great runner, but I am at least out there, too!
Thanks for the comments and Julie I love that quote! I might have to steal it :)
ReplyDeleteWelcome to blog world! Leroy sent me?! Good for you for getting out there and trying something. Life is full of adventures so why sit and watch everyone else....we might as well get up and try something ourselves. Look forward to reading.
ReplyDeleteI follow your husband's blog. My thoughts - slow is all relative to the person. You're out there doing it and that's what matters most.
ReplyDeleteLeroy sent me over here. You will soon find out that the blogging world can care less about speed. Slow Schmoe. You are out there, that's ALL that matters.
ReplyDeleteFINALLY! A blog that I can relate to! =) There's nothing wrong with being slower than others in my mind- Heck, we're doing way more than the majority of our country just by getting out there. Dad did do a great job helping design this- He's such a nerd. Lol. Looks great! Happy blogging! =)
ReplyDeleteI've never done a tri- so you have one on me!
ReplyDeleteI think you'll find that it's better to be entertaining than fast when it comes to blogging =D
I love you already my slowish, average BUT AWESOME tri-sister!!Woot!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to follow your journey :-)
Loved reading your about page.
I was travelling when you found my site, so it has taken me awhile to check your's out. I really like it! I am slow too (our 5K times are about the same), but look at how much improvement we can make in the future!
ReplyDeleteCool site. Thanks for the comment. I'm now following your adventures.
