It's a very slow process - two steps forward, one step back - but I'm inching in the right direction. - Rob Reiner

Just a little bit about me

OK....so this blog is a work in progress.  But I figured I have to start somewhere, so here goes.

First, I have to say thank you to my husband Jim at 50 After 40 for 2 things:

1.  The absolutely awesome design of this blog!!  It looks great right?

2.  For inspiring me daily!  If it weren't for Jim, I probably never would have taken that first step toward racing.

Now a little bit about me (I'll put more info in the "About Me" section later):

Last year I signed up for my first triathlon.  It was an all women's sprint distance triathlon with about 800 participants - of which about 400 were first timers.  It was a great first experience.  I enjoyed it so much I ended up doing 3 sprint distance triathlons last year.  Not too bad for my "rookie" year.  I experienced so many things last year - my first bike ride in a hail storm, my first open water swim, my first run across the finish line - and I wished I had journaled about them, but I didn't.  So I decided to start this blog...more for me than anyone else.  I want to remember my experiences and the journey I will take again this year as I train and complete my first Olympic Distance Triathlon.......and possibly sign up for my first marathon.  What new experiences do I have in store?

I need to say this upfront.........I AM SLOW!!!!  And when I say slow, I mean SLOW!!!  I currently run about a 12:30 minute mile.  My PR is an 11:15 minute mile for a 5K for crying outloud......so I am slow.  So maybe you think I am a strong swimmer or biker.  Nope, not strong in those sports either.  Before last year I hadn't been on a bike for 10 years, and I had never swam (except as a kid for fun).  People ask me all the time, so what is your "strong" sport.  I always have to just laugh and say I don't have one.  So, if you are a super athlete this blog is probably not for you.  This is for those of us who may not be great, but at least we are out there Slowly Tri-ing!!

  8. I follow your husband's blog. My thoughts - slow is all relative to the person. You're out there doing it and that's what matters most.

  9. Leroy sent me over here. You will soon find out that the blogging world can care less about speed. Slow Schmoe. You are out there, that's ALL that matters.

  10. FINALLY! A blog that I can relate to! =) There's nothing wrong with being slower than others in my mind- Heck, we're doing way more than the majority of our country just by getting out there. Dad did do a great job helping design this- He's such a nerd. Lol. Looks great! Happy blogging! =)
